Our first treasure hunt was in St. Louis. We had been to St. Louis over the past several years. We stayed on the Route 66 oldest routes. And yes, it was a cloudy, windy day. We had a few sprinkles and saw puddles that we missed some rain, but it never hit us. ... Blessings!
Our final destination was the Chain of Rocks Bridge in St. Louis . Built in 1929 over an area of the Mississippi River that had dangerous rapids. We were advised to walk it from the Illinois side.
Driving from St. Louis to Springfield, Illinois was an interesting one to say the least! Giants abound!
First stop in Springfield was lunch at the Cozy Dog Drive-In. They did have really good corn dogs.
Springfield is where Abraham Lincoln practiced law and got into politics. We noticed that the locals all called him Mr. Lincoln. We spent some time at the restored village and his home. They had a very good movie telling about his life when he came to Springfield in his early 20's until he went off to the Whitehouse. The house was never sold after his death, so the contents were nearly all original and in the same places. Definitely, a good stop.

Plan for tomorrow is to follow route 66 to Lincoln, Illinois... maybe a little further, and then head over to George's Aunt Dorothy's place.
