Utah and Monument Valley.............
Years ago I saw a picture of beautiful rocks with a long straight road leading to it. I was told it was Sedona, Arizona as we planned for our trip last year. So after visiting Sedona ( which we definitely enjoyed) we realized that this was not the picture I had seen. I finally figured out that the picture I kept seeing was indeed in the corner of Utah and Arizona ... the Monument Valley.
Our visit to the Monument region, found the region was covered with clouds- heavy with rain. Not what I had hoped for, but still one of our more memorable days on this vacation. We took plenty of pictures as we approached the region, followed signs to the Navajo Park. Pay our $20.00, got our map from the visitor center and headed toward the drive around the park.
There was a park vehicle parked near the entrance with a half a gate closed. They said we could go on in but to watch for flash floods.......
.............WHAT? Safe or not? .... Should we go thru? of course , really what could happen. The clouds were gray over there, but not really raining where we were. So off we went. Looking at each rock formation and identifying them by name... the mittens, the sisters,,,, The road was fine, until we got down just a little lower and there was a little stream that was crossing the road. (not sure it was supposed to be there) Crossed that without difficulty, the next little bit was wetter, and finally, we shook our heads and decided the road was getting a bit too wet. As we approached that little creek, my daughter in law who was on the driver's side, quietly said it's a river... IT is A River!...... IT IS A RIVER! Looking out the other side to take pictures, I then heard George saying- We are going! Suddenly there was a huge splash! We made it to the over side, so did the next car. According to George, there was a 2 foot wall of water coming towards us, it was now or never kind of thing. Check out our splashed car. Greg took a shot during the splash. Hope to get a copy of that picture! Laughing all the way until we got to safety, I am glad we turned around when we did!
