I have had a fascination with this road for about 15 years now. See when I was working at a small PT department, I bought a poster that looked a lot like this picture. It had a road sign, that I believe was 89A. I always wondered where it was. I looked on maps but really didn't know what state to look in. When I saw this picture on my google of Route 66 I knew was going to finally find that rock formation and the route 89A . As I mentioned in my earlier post, I found out that it is Cathedral Rock near Sedona Arizona. It is even along route 89A!!!!!
Yes, we are taking a side trip to drive that road and see those rock formations.

Okay so after we returned home we have to admit that this was not in Sedona! We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Sedona and loved the route 89A, but 89A is crazy windy road ,there is nothing straight about it!! I have since learned that this picture is in Utah and is looking at Monument Valley. View of Monument Valley in Utah, looking south on U.S. Route 163 from 13 miles (21 km) north of the Arizona/Utah State line
We are going to have to take another road trip.......

Probably about the time I bought the poster, we spent a day in Sedona with our kids during our trip to the Grand Canyon. We were only spending a day, so we didn't drive around much.
We did check out Slide Rock Park. These rocks are smooth from the water flowing over them. At this park, you can slide down the rocks and play in the water falls. It was great!
A bit disappointed that it will be too chilly on this trip to slide!

My goal this time when we go to Sedona is to see the cathedral rock and any other rock formations that are there.
We checked on jeep tours, both guided and self driven tours.
I found and ordered this DVD that has a description of what we will see as we drive. It has pictures and music and is quite interesting...almost hooky, but still has good information.

Here are just a few of the rock formations we are going to be looking for while we are in Sedona. Praying for blue skies!!!
Then we will get back on Route 66.
