When we leave Tulsa, we will begin our exploration to find the treasures and mysteries along the route!
I got out the "master list" and picked out 4 places I thought might be fun to check out. Mind you that the master list has 31 listings. My thought was I would plug in the distance from Tulsa to our next night lodging ...365 miles on routes 44 and 40-taking 5 hours and 17 minutes. Then I plugged in the 4 places that I picked out , I was sure that we would have many extra hours and miles, but the google maps said 372 miles and 5 hours and 49 minutes. Well that wasn't bad. Not nearly the extra time I had expected.
So my next step was to go to the EZ66 guide and get the nitty gritty directions and see what I find. You guessed it, Many more details and time. Thus the adventure begins.

So the next random point of interest I chose was the pony bridge between El Reno and Bridgeport Hill . It sounded interesting... Wondered why it was a pony bridge. Well , it has 38 pony trusses. Learn something new everyday!
It was built in 1931, and it's placement caused the little town of Bridgeport to turn into a ghost town.
Now, a ghost town may be something worth checking in to!
Side trip will get us to a pre-1933 route 66. It is a dirt road, that once led to the 1921 Key Suspension Bridge, only the anchor piers remain. I think we will be searching out several bridges.

The third place was a Cherokee Trading Post . "This family-owned gift shop was established in 1967 on historic Route 66. The Cherokee Trading Post in Clinton offers Indian jewelry, hand beaded jewelry, moccasins, artifacts, pottery, art, rattlesnake products, leather jackets and Western items, as well as Oklahoma and Route 66 souvenirs. Find a wide variety of cowboy boots from different brands at their boot outlet." TravelOK
Hmmmm, Moccasins might make some nice slippers...... George's mom loved to buy moccasins when she was on vacation.

Foss Oklahoma is true Ghost town. It is located between Clinton OK and Canute, OK Looks like Exit 53 will take us there. There is an state route 44 at exit 53. There is a dirt road called the old postal route- pre-1932 .There are some ruins of Kobels Place. The town of Foss was started in the late 1890. It's history includes the dust bowl, a flood, and a fire. The last bank closed it's door in 1977.
All in all, there may only be 5-6 hours of drive time, but by the time we check our barns, bridges, trading posts and ghost towns, I think we will have a very full day!
